February 2-8, 2026 Summary

Temperature 

Temperatures were above normal throughout the region. The only area below normal was a small area in eastern North Dakota, reaching 0°F to 5°F below normal. Southwestern North Dakota, northwestern and southwestern South Dakota, and a small area in western Wyoming reached temperatures 20°F to 25°F above normal. 

Temperatures in northcentral Wyoming and a small area in southwestern South Dakota reached temperatures greater than 25°F above normal. The hottest temperature was 64°F in Dodge City, Kansas, which is 16°F above normal for the area. The lowest temperatures were 0°F to 5°F below normal in eastern North Dakota.  

Temperatures in a small area in eastern North Dakota, southcentral Colorado, a small part of southcentral Nebraska, and southcentral and a small area of eastern Kansas reached 0°F to 5°F below normal. The coldest temperature was 7°F in Grand Forks, North Dakota, which is 10°F above normal for the area. The highest temperatures were 20°F to 25°F above normal in western and central North Dakota, and parts of eastern and western Wyoming.

Precipitation 

There was little precipitation in the region. Northwestern and part of central North Dakota received 200 to 300 percent of normal precipitation while the majority of the rest of the region received below 5 percent of normal precipitation. The region received very little precipitation throughout; the Casper Mountain in Wyoming received the most at 0.3 inches of precipitation. Drought continues in the region. D0 (abnormally dry) conditions increased from 53 percent to 56 percent. In the region, Kansas experienced the highest increase in D0 conditions by 8 percent while North Dakota and South Dakota experienced no change in D0 conditions.
