Teaching
Teaching is at the core of what I do as an assistant professor of practice. I teach all levels of courses, from our freshman Intro to Environmental Engineering course, to Senior Design and electives like Environmental Engineering Process Design. I primarily teach in environmental engineering but also teach across the civil discipline as well, with an interest in teaching coding skills as well. A list of my current, upcoming and previous classes are provided below. For a look at some of the activities and projects we complete in my classes, please scroll down to read more!

Class Activities and Projects
Water Treatment Demo
One of our previous Senior Design courses designed and built a water treatment demo that we now use in classes to teach students water treatment principles and also as a lab activity.
DigDeep CIVE 420 Project Spring 2023
In the Spring 2023 semester, our CIVE 420 class worked with a real-world non-governmental organization, DigDeep, to design an initial water and wastewater treatment solution for small, rural communities in rural Appalachia.

CIVE 420 Lecture Content
Did you know some of our classes are taught as flipped classroom style classes? This means students complete pre-lecture activities, such as watching videos on content before coming to class so that class time can be used for active learning exercises, like group problem solving and discussion. These pre-lectures are posted as unlisted videos online, take a peek:

Guest Lecture on LCA in Lebanon
Teaching isn’t just in the classroom at UNL, its also a global endeavor. One of the fun lectures I got to give in my first semester was a guest lecture on how to conduct a life cycle analysis (LCA) to a class taught by Dr. May Massoud at the American University of Beirut. I have never lectured at 2am before, but it is quite an experience to cross time zones and reach students around the world as a professor.
